Many take sleep for granted, but more than one in four find sleeping difficult and lack of a good night’s sleep leads to exhaustion, irritability and difficulty concentrating the next day.

It’s also quite a lonely place to be when it feels like everyone else is asleep! Sleeping problems are generally a reflection of worries and stress occuring during the day, and these can also manifest themselves as nightmares and night terrors.

Main causes of insomnia and sleeping problems

Sleeping problems are always a consequence of certain unhelpful beliefs and thinking styles. As simple as they often are, they can cause big problems when it comes to trying to sleep. These include:

• Worrying, brooding or ruminating during the day, by the time bedtime comes you feel anxious and burdened by the things you’ve carried around in your head during the day.

• The expectation of not being able to sleep is a big contributory factor, alongside the extra worry of how hard it will be to function the next day.

• Lying in bed and over-thinking events from the previous day, or what you need to do tomorrow or in the future. Over-planning leads to an over-active mind which leads to poor sleep.

The good news is that with the right treatment, the problem can be easily resolved! It doesn’t matter how how long you’ve suffered from it for, or how severe the problem is.

Hypnotherapy for Sleeping Problems

For more of a ‘quick fix’ solution for sleeping better, I use suggestion hypnosis. Results can be effective immediately, and hence only a couple of sessions would be required. With suggestion therapy, you are relaxed into a very nice, calm, state, and then given suggestions entirely for your benefit, which will give you a boost to overcome your symptoms and issues.
